CNN —Astronomers have discovered three previously unknown moons around Uranus and Neptune, the most distant planets in our solar system. In the future, the tiny satellite will be named after a Shakespearean character, in keeping with the tradition of Uranus’ moons bearing literary names. He worked with Marina Brozovic and Bob Jacobson of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, to determine the moon’s orbit. The outer moons orbiting all the giant planets across our solar system — Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune — share similar configurations. “Even Uranus, which is tipped on its side, has a similar moon population to the other giant planets orbiting our Sun,” Sheppard said.

We blended our last namesName blending is the practice of creating a new last name out of the letters of each partner's maiden name. When it came to what to do with our last names, the traditional route didn't feel right to us, but we really wanted to share a last name. A lot of couples resolve this by hyphenating, but our names just don't sound good hyphenated together. But with our blended name, it doesn't feel like we've let our names go. The pieces of our names are still there; they've just been rearranged and combined with each other's.

Scientists detect oxygen in noxious atmosphere of Venus

Data from NASA's Magellan spacecraft and Pioneer Venus Orbiter is used in an undated composite image of the planet Venus. Its thick and noxious atmosphere is dominated by carbon dioxide - 96.5% - with lesser amounts of nitrogen and trace gases. In fact, with Venus getting far less scientific attention than other planets such as Mars, the direct detection of its oxygen has remained difficult. They noted that this atomic oxygen, which consists of a single oxygen atom, differs from molecular oxygen, which consists of two oxygen atoms and is breathable. "The Venus atmosphere is very dense.

REUTERS/Charles Mostoller/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 21 (Reuters) - Magellan Midstream Partners' (MMP.N) unitholders on Thursday voted in favour of its sale to larger rival ONEOK Inc (OKE.N) for $18.8 billion, creating one of the largest U.S. energy pipeline companies. Independent proxy advisory firms Glass Lewis & Co and ISS had recommended a vote in favor of the sale. Magellan, in its proxy, cautions that the merger is not conditioned on the compensation vote and that if the acquisition is approved, the executive compensation is payable. Michael Mears, Magellan's previous chief executive officer, also would receive about $26.5 million in equity, while the company's current chief commercial officer and general council will receive multi-million dollar packages. Magellan, however, said it expects ONEOK to consider the outcome of the compensation vote, along with other factors, when considering future executive pay.

In particular, design differences between the Titanic and Olympic, visible in photographs of the two ships, are consistent with the wreckage of Titanic being, in fact, Titanic, and making the switch theory implausible. Another of the ships, Olympic, was put into service the year before, on June 14, 1911, and retired in 1935, with many of its fixtures and fittings auctioned off before it was scrapped. Magellan and its collaborator Atlantic Productions released sample images and animations of the Titanic wreck site scans to media outlets in May 2023, which can be viewed (here), (here). Olympic’s hull number was 400, and Titanic’s was 401. “Meanwhile,” Layton said, “the Titanic’s correct hull number, 401, has been observed at the wreck site and on items recovered from the wreck.

NEW YORK/LONDON, June 30 (Reuters) - Global mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity fell 36% year-on-year in the second quarter, but investment bankers and lawyers expressed optimism that the stock market's recovery will gradually restore chief executives' dealmaking confidence. "Global uncertainty is what is impacting M&A most - it just makes people uncomfortable. It's easier to say, I'll pass on a deal - nobody gets fired for passing on a deal. M&A volumes in the United States declined by 30% to $318.4 billion, while Europe and Asia Pacific volumes shrank 49% and 24% respectively. Not a single so-called mega-deal, which typically refers to transactions worth over $25 billion, was signed during the quarter.

Scan finds megalodon tooth necklace in Titanic wreck
  + stars: | 2023-05-31 | by ( Jack Guy | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +2 min
CNN —A necklace carrying the tooth of a prehistoric shark known as a megalodon has been discovered in the wreckage of the Titanic during a digital scan of the sunken ship. For more than 100 years, the necklace has sat at the bottom of the ocean following the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, according to Magellan, a deep water investigation company that carried out the scan. Images from the scan show a gold necklace with a tooth of a megalodon, scientifically known as Otodus megalodon, a prehistoric shark that lived more than 23 million years ago. The necklace was discovered by Magellan during a project to produce a full-size digital scan of the Titanic, which the company says is the largest underwater scanning project in history. The megalodon tooth necklace is pictured in the center of this image.

Are the travails of the bond market, like Macbeth expounds, a "tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing?" The billionaire class — so incorrectly sought after by the media — so often seems to use the bond market as a sort of intellectual cudgel. That's why I always start my discussion on bonds with the simple query of "where are the layoffs, not forget about stocks, think fixed income." Here the bond market polices only those companies that haven't pivoted to making a profit. They, among all sectors, could be pummeled by the bond market freeze and by the consumers' paralysis.
CNN —The mysterious 1912 sinking of the luxury passenger liner, the Titanic, has long served as a source of fascination for many. Historians now believe that a new underwater scanning project may provide answers to some of the unanswered questions regarding the tragedy that killed more than 1,500 people. A team of scientists have used deep sea mapping to create “an exact ‘Digital Twin’ of the Titanic wreck for the first time,” according to a press release Wednesday from deep sea investigators Magellan and filmmakers Atlantic Productions. Data engineers can use the data to examine the true mechanics behind the tragedy, according to Titanic expert Parks Stephenson. According to Stephenson, this mapping will herald the “beginning of a new chapter,” for Titanic research and exploration.

An ambitious digital imaging project has produced what researchers describe as a “digital twin” of the R.M.S. Titanic, showing the wreckage of the doomed ocean liner with a level of detail that has never been captured before. The project, undertaken by Magellan Ltd., a deepwater seabed mapping company, yielded more than 16 terabytes of data, 715,000 still images and a high-resolution video. The visuals were captured over the course of a six-week expedition in the summer of 2022, nearly 2.4 miles below the surface of the North Atlantic, Atlantic Productions, which is working on a documentary about the project, said in a news release.
